History
Built circa 1880, the Manor Room as Upottery’s Village Hall has historically been known, was given to the village by Lord Sidmouth and is owned on its behalf by the Parish Council. Lord Sidmouth had the Manor Room built for his family as a games room when it had a stone floor with games markings on it. He later let the villagers use it for a rent of one pound a year. With the valued support of the village, some grant money and through tireless fund-raising, the hall was extended in 2008 to provide a good-sized entrance lobby with disabled access and WC and some storage, and now comprises: entrance lobby, main hall, committee room, a good-sized kitchen, lavatories and disabled lavatory with baby changing, secondary back-room kitchen, and storage areas. In 2016 it was decided by the Parish Council that the building’s exterior should be painted for the first time in its history giving the building its much cheerier appearance. 2023 saw the addition of the terrace, a great boon for summer functions.
